Kenneth's Second Year

Milestones and Antics
(from most recent to least recent)

8/23/02 Said, "I have an announcement!"

First Haircut 8/22/02

Made his first snip with scissors 8/20/02

When he woke up from his nap, he spotted the large silver punch bowl I had just polished sitting on the table. He was very curious about it and asked a number of questions. I explained what it was for and showed him that it was empty. He asked to see it empty again, so again I tipped it up so he could look inside. Then he said, "Could I put asphalt in it?" 8/14/02

First Two Year Molar 8/14/02

Said, "I do not love you!" when I put him down for his nap. It didn't really hurt that much. 8/14/02

When I told him he would be staying with a friend tomorrow, and that he should tell her if he needs to go potty, he said, "And Carol will say, 'Okay Kenneth, here is a potty for making pee pee and poop into.'" Imagining what she would like say! 8/11/02

In the car on the way home he insisted that it was Saturday, not Sunday. 8/11/02

While playing with trains alonside another little boy about his age in the doctor's office waiting room, Kenneth shared very well, and exhibited a surprising (to me) amount of selflessness and empathy. Each child had two or three train cars, but because several children were playing, the cars kept changing hands. At one point, Kenneth had only one car and was clearly looking around the table for another. I saw a stray and pointed it out to him. The other little boy (who had two or three cars already) heard me and he and Kenneth reached for it simultaneously. It wasn't really clear who got there first, but Kenneth ended up with it. Well, the other little boy got upset, very upset actually, but I decided to let Kenneth keep the car to play with because, A. he hadn't taken it FROM the child, and B. He only had one car and the other little guy had 2 or 3 already. However, much to my surprise, Kenneth turned around and gave the car to the little boy completely unbidden. I was touched. Unfortunately, the other kiddo kept crying anyway. 8/6/02

While playing in his room, Kenneth sat Creamy Bear up beside him and was handing him puzzle pieces. At one point, Kenneth asked Creamy Bear, "So, Creamy Bear, does the kitty cat go behind the green door?" then he proceeded to reach over, nod Creamy Bear's head for him and say, "Yes, it does." In a little bear voice. What a kick! 8/5/02

Told me that he was a Dinosaur, pointed out where his two horns were and where his tail was. 8/4/02

Joked with me while reading "The Busy Bulldozer." Everything in the picture took a turn saying, "Ooomph!" like the bulldozer did when it pushed the boulder out of the way. He said, "the grass said Ooomph! It's silly!" 8/4/02

"When I'm a Mama, I will get candy." 8/4/02

8/2/02 "Charlie, do you want to get out of your stroller and play with the trains with me?"

Pooped in Potty again 8/1/02 Got two stickers, two skittles and talked to Uncle Thomas on the phone.

His story telling and sentence length and structure is getting so complex! Sometimes I'm just floored by the things he says. We passed a pasture of cows all laying down.
